Cradle of DarknessA time travel story, whaddaya know? “Adolf Hitler killed sixty million people and only I can save those people.” Andrea Collins accepts her task and while noble, it will most likely cost her very life. “If you had a chance, would you take that chance? Andrea Collins is about to learn that her chance will be more difficult for it is a one-way trip in the Twilight Zone.”
Andrea Collins is sent back to Bavaria, circa 1882. She arrives a few days early, to beat the arrival of the real housekeeper – enough time to save history from the atrocities that the baby Adolf will commit in the next century. Andrea volunteers to care for the baby and little Adolf does seek her out, but the nanny remains responsible for the child. Mr. Hitler decides to take Andrea out for the evening, to bring her into the family but he ends up taking Christina, the nanny. Andrea has her chance, too bad that she is unable to do away with the baby. Finally she battles through the guilt and she runs off with the baby . . . the ending was a surprise, a rather rude shock. The paradox here is that for Andrea Collins to go back in time, Hitler must live so that she could attempt to save human kind from the horrors that are sure to follow. “A moment of silence for mankind. History can never be changed . . . not even in the Twilight Zone.” My rating: B+ Synopsis (From twilightzonetv.com) Directed by: Jean De Segonzac Starring: Katherine Heigl, James Remar Andrea Collins, a young woman, is selected to travel back in time to Austria on a mission to murder Adolf Hitler an infant, and prevent the disastrous effects of his life. Arriving at the Hitler household, Andrea poses as the new housekeeper. However, her mission is complicated when none of her assigned chores involve care of the baby. Only Christina, another maid, is responsible for the care of baby Hitler. With both Christina and baby Adolf’s parents being extremely protective over the child, the young heroine contrives a plan to gain access to him, but finds that her task is more difficult than expected. After listening to Herr Hitler vent about the separation of the Aryan people, and his hate for the Jews and the Gypsies, she decides that something must be done quickly.
