Dreem Time

Hello again readers!  Guess what? I just finished rereading one of my favorite novels:

The Princess Bride

S. Morgenstern’s

Classic Tale

of True

Love and

High Adventure

No shit, this is the actual title.  This guy had the nerve to call his novel a classic before he even published the damned thing.  Actually, the book I fell in love with is: The “Good Parts” version abridged by William Goldman (author of screenplay “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”).  After reading this book for the tenth time I found out it was also a movie starring none other then Carey Elwes (also in Kiss the Girls, Liar Liar and Glory), as Westley, and Robin Wright (more commonly known for such modern films as Jenny Corran in Forrest Gump, Message in a Bottle, and Unbreakable) as the beautiful Princess Buttercup.  Other co-stars in the movie were Fred Savage and Andre the Giant!  YES!  ANDRE actually ACTED!

Imagine a small boy sick in bed with pneumonia; fever so hot he’s delusional.  This is the state young Billy Goldman was in when his father, a next to illiterate man from Florin (also the setting of “The Princess Bride”), walked into his bedroom at night and said, “Chapter One, The Bride.”

Young Billy asked his father if the book had any sports.  His father replied… “Fencing.  Fighting.  Torture.  Poison.  True love.  Hate.  Revenge.  Giants.  Hunters.  Bad men.  Good men.  Beautifullest ladies.  Snakes.  Spiders.  Beasts of all natures and descriptions.  Pain.  Death.  Brave men.  Coward men.  Strongest men.  Chases.  Escapes.  Lies. Truths.  Passion.  Miracles.”  Now to me, this sounds like a kick ass book.  This book not only changed, but also saved (in his opinion) William Goldman’s life.  He claims that the reading of this book by his father is what helped him through his sickness.

I am a religious guy for the most part and believe in many things that some people would mock, but no one had better try and tell me that True Love doesn’t exist!  It DOES!  This book gave me some faith and also helped to teach me a valuable lesson, “Life Isn’t Fair.”  Don’t believe me?  Try living once in a while.  In the book, some “not nice stuff happens.”

If you’re interested in reading the book, scroll down till you see the lines like this ~~ across the screen.  This is for our somewhat younger readers.  Hey, life isn’t fair.  The wrong people die, the wrong people get away with stuff they shouldn’t.  Just cause your friend beats the snot outta ya at basketball or ping pong or Marvel vs. Capcom and then tells you that you had a bad day or maybe you’ll beat him next time, don’t think he’s telling you the truth.  Not for one second.  He can’t make that promise.  Life doesn’t always work out that way.  I really do hope you either read the book or watch the movie.  Just let this piece of art into your life.

Well, I hope you decide to give this book a chance.  It’s an awesome piece of literature and it has provided me with a lot of entertainment as well as priceless quotes.  Well, feel free to write me a response if you so choose.  Would love to hear from those who gave it a chance.
