Is it October already? Time sure flies by fast

Dodgers fans rejoice!  They become the first team to advance to the LCS sweeping the NL best Chicago Cubs in three games.  For the first time in twenty years, we will see the Dodgers in the NLCS, waiting for either the Phillies or the Brewers.  If the Phillies win, the Dodgers will go to Philadelphia for the first two games. If the Brewers win, the Dodgers will have home field advantage on the virtue that the Dodgers won a Division Title, whereas Milwaukee won the Wild Card.  I hope the Brewers win the series since they’re down 2 games to 1.  The Chicago Cubs, on the other hand, have waited 100 years for a World Series win.  They’re going to have to wait another year for that, despite winning 97 games this season.

The Angels have still not solved their Red Sox problem.  Even with home-field advantage, along with a league best (and a club record) of 100 wins this season, and winning the regular season series 5-2, the “LA” Angels are still facing with a curse of their own in not beating Boston.  With the series returning to that area for Game 3, the Angels are on the brink of elimination needing to win all three games, including two in Boston, to stay alive in the playoffs.  I personally don’t care about the Freeway Series as long as my Dodgers win, but if people want this to happen, the Angels really do need Angels in the outfield to get out of this hole.

Nintendo had a press conference this week, and really it made up for that E3 disaster.  The reputable video game company has announced that the new Punch-Out will be released for the Wii in the first quarter of next year.  Other highly-anticipated titles are The Conduit, Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop, Call of Duty: World at War, and Sin and Punishment 2.  Also to be released is Club Nintendo.  It’s actually a service in which buyers will earn points for exclusive products for each Nintendo product purchase.  It’s already a hit in Japan, so hopefully it will be a hit in the US too.  Nintendo has also announced that the new Nintendo DSi will be released next fall for $180.  This will feature a 3 megapixel camera, as well as a new SD card in which you can store memory separate from the games themselves (which means I can finally rent DS games without worrying about starting over if I return one of their games).  The only downsides I can think of are a lower battery life, and the discontinuation of the GBA slot.  But I’m sure Nintendo will make the Game Boy and GBA games downloadable just like the past Nintendo/Sega systems on the Wii.

O.J. Simpson was found guilty of kidnapping and armed robbery in Las Vegas this weekend.  The troubled ex-NFL star will probably be spending the rest of his life in prison.  This time, NOBODY, not even the African-American community, was cheering him on.  O.J. talked about finding the real killers of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, but it seemed that Mr. Simpson made no effort in finding them.  Whether he actually killed them or not, Simpson’s life has continued in turmoil since he was found liable for the wrongful death suit, and has ended in disgrace with the guilty verdict for kidnapping and armed robbery.  Another fallen hero, forever dominated by the dark side.

USC rebounds from last week’s embarrassing loss, beating ranked #23 Oregon 44-10 (what is it with USC winning against ranked teams, but losing to non-ranked ones?).  UCLA finally wins one, crushing Washington State 28-3.

Lane Kiffin is fired by the Raiders.  One commentator says there’s no shame in losing your job like that.

Finally, it’s been a week since the historic 777 point Stock Market loss.  With Congress finally passing the bailout, we hope that there would not be another Great Depression, because the Depression happened in a similar situation with a record Stock Market loss in one week, and just got worse the following week.  In fact, it was in this month, 79 years ago, that the Great Depression started.  Again, let’s pray that it doesn’t happen again.
