How did we get here?

Tonight the greatest science fiction begins it’s finale.

Why did Battlestar connect to us?

I think there were several factors. These characters remind us of us in our most idealized and most flawed. The majority of the hero characters are military personnel lends a particular weight to their actions as does the fact that the show takes place in deep space where a mistake means death. On top of the society’s need for fuel, food, and water, the killer Cylon robots also drive the plot.  As fantastic as these stories are they mirror current conditions; there are debates about abortion, refuge, medical marijuana, war protesting, the inconsistency about the rule of law. But if that kind of stuff bores you at least you can look at former Victoria secret model Tricia Helfer’s omnipresent number 6 models. There are also human moments such as the birth of children, the sacrifice of lives and the father/son talks that Adama and Apollo have.  For the last five years the cast and crew have invited us to find “someway out of here” Thank you for making something so damn interesting.

Miniseries

Among other things this is first instance we see two spaceships frak. For that legendary moment this show will be remembered.  “Grab your gun and bring in the cat” indeed.

Season 1 Hand of God- after all that time getting the crap kicked out them Adama makes a play for the tylium fuel that is disparately needed. The trouble is that Starbuck will not be leading the mission. Apollo will.

This is the first time we see the genius writing of Weddle and Thompson.  Their majesty comes in the way they are able to write Starbuck's ability to plan. They wrote the misdirection necessary to give Apollo his shot perfectly.  I genuinely believe that this plan would work in real life.

Season 2
Resurrection ship.

The appearance of Admiral Helena Cain just turns everything upside down. The show became about the differences in philosophy of whether to protect/respect others, even enemies or respond to heinous actions by becoming an even bigger monster.

It was amazing to see how quickly the chain of command gets broken down under these conditions. It was a blessing that Lt. Thorne died because Cain’s leadership was quickly contested and eventually due to Cylon interference deposed.

Season 3
Exodus
If the Hand of God episode was brilliant this episode was insane. I never thought I would see the Galactica do an FTL jump into the atmosphere to strategically release it’s contingent of vipers. Unfortunately that decision has had impacts on the ship that we are seeing in season 4.5.

The trial of Gaius Frakking Baltar
It’s not justice ..not for me got Jamie Bamber the job on Law and Order London likely because of it’s realism. ….. perfect.

Season 4.0
Revelations
After a super tense situation and perfect speech President Lee Adama brokers a truce with the losing side of the cylon civil war. Yeah they got to Earth. But not the earth that they wanted.

Season 4.5
The Oath, Blood on the Scales
With the destruction of Pegasus. I had been thinking that the wrong ship got blown up. That was until I saw this episode. I don’t think that the President and Baltar would have been able to get away if the Pegasus was ship. I also don’t think Tyrol would have been able to stop the FTL in time. It is also likely that the Admiral wouldn’t have gotten to the CIC in time. I don’t think EJO has ever been so commanding as that instance. DAMN.

Someone to Watch Over Me
Fuck that episode was perfect.  Th e use of music was as creative as it was perfectly suited to bring forth the drama. The appearance of Starbuck’s father as either a cylon projection or angel was necessary to the character to make the acceptance for what was to come. The music also brought a horrific light to Boomer’s seduction and betrayal of Chief Tyrol.

Bam’s Bets
Will Caprica do Galactica justice?

Yeah but it won’t have Weddle and Thompson who are off doing wonders with CSI.

Will the Galactica explode? Probably?

Will there be another Galactica? Yeah… Starbuck and her viper came back. Baltar is talking about resurrection.

Will they be stuck in a time loop? With all the FTL jumping especially that jump near the exploding supernova, perhaps the crew jumped back in time. OOOPS

Will there be only 13 ships left? To symbolize the colonies. Perhaps.

Dead pool

Adama- 4 to 1 He is losing everything. So why not go out on top and take out the bad guys once and for all.

Apollo 30 to 1 He needs to be around to hold things together. Nuff said. His death would sting the most. The only reason that this isn’t higher is that Apollo died in the first series. Maybe because Zarek died Apollo won’t.

Starbuck  1 to 1 She died once before. Why not again.

Roslin 1 to 5 She is supposed to die. Period. She had one reprieve as a grace to Bill. Not again.

Helo-  2 to 1 Dead. … for some reason he will be killed by Boomer. Then Athena will take care of Boomer before dying herself. --- I think the dream has something to do with this.

Athena 2 to1 Yeah I see a convoluted mess happening here.

Tyrol 2 to 1  Tyrol will go out in a bang after killing Boomer. Say goodbye to one of the final five. What is a shame is that they never covered how much he was supposed to love Tori.

Tori 5 to 1 although she is a bit craven I feel that she will remember and stand at tyrol’s side.

Anders/Galactica. 3 to 1 MAYBE just MAYBE Anders being the hybrid on the Galactica will save the ship. The bullet wound and boomers jump distortion are metaphors for each other.

Tigh – wild card I think that Tigh will live. He will be responsible for helping the cylons learn how to be human.

Ellen.  Wild card – she may not live. Her decisions are erratic. will she be worthy of survival?

Caprica 6 – 10000000 to 1 spoilers reveal she will survive. She has already survived the loss of her child and learned what it means to be human. She will make it to times square no less to end the series much the same way it started; with her walking on the screen.

Humanity – Something tells me that we are going to see the numbers go down to 15,000
Why? I don’t know. I just know that pretty soon people are going to start having to have insane amounts of sex in order to keep the human race going.

Gaius Frakkin Baltar!  100,000 to 1
This dude has deserved death since day 1. which is exactly why he won’t get it. He got the sweetheart exile deal in the original series and he will get the deal in this version as well.

Cavil Doral and Simon….. DEAD. If there is any justice these crazy freaks need to die or find some humanity. However that is unlikely as three hours wouldn’t justify the amount of time necessary to make an effective change.

Hera  50 to 1 … Killing a kid that represents the union of two races would be tragic… and unexpected….

Yeah they are going to be at the United Nations. Making a presentation about how BSG is a wonderful show about the human condition. Frakking A. Whoopi Goldberg is going to be emceeing the event. … Frankly I much preferred the choice of having Kevin Smith emcee like he did at comic-con. But I would be amazed if they let silent bob talk about how Gaeta and Hoshi Felch or if Starbuck and Anders had sex in the Cylon bathtub. ( We all know he would.) Props to you man. I hope you actually make it in there.

What the hell can we do now that BSG is over?

90-95
Watchmen – the only reason that the score isn’t higher is that the movie/ maxiseries is too short. (approx 3 hrs theatrical cut/ 12 issues) BSG went 85 episodes (not including The Plan.)

90-95
Lost
After a ton of episodes where the plot’s questions got bigger and bigger, we finally are getting to some answers. The use of flashbacks, flash forwards and time travel have made the show a classic.  The constant was a true turning point in the show.

70-85% BSG
Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles Bear McCreary does the music and Summer Glau delivers the robot action. Man she plays crazy as well as anyone can. Lena Headey (Sarah Connor) is also a hard core woman with tons of appeal yet no real external vulnerability. It is as though she took her vulnerability and locked it in a pressure cooker that sits inside a safe that is locked inside a bank vault. I cant think of anyone save the actress who played Helena Cain who can do this convincingly.  Watch the insanity. This is about a single mother headed family at war with the end of the world.

60-65 BSG
Dollhouse
Joss Whedon’s latest creation wisely uses a Battlestar alum and a Buffy hottie to bring up the idea of who people are at their core if their memories are erased.

60-65 BSG
Star Wars the Clone Wars
Man the movie sucked. However this show’s writing has been picking up due to it’s ability to focus on different hero characters. Of particular interest are the clones, sith wanna-be Asajj Ventress and Yoda’s adventures. It is also cool how a moral is delivered implicitly in each episode.

40-45%
Heroes
I'm sorry heroe's fans. But the show is second or third hat to the X-men comics that have come out in the past. Go read those. (btw Go see how badly TOM ROTHMAN (P.O.S.) frakked up X-Men and the last stand by rushing it by comparing it to the source material.
Yes the fight needed to happen on the moon or wind up there. We needed to see the watcher.) Maybe it is the fact that the tension can’t get ratcheted up high enough because the cinematographers aren’t allowed to make the viewers hurt. Maybe just maybe if they did a more brutal version (in the vein of BSG’s beatings of gina six) I could accept it.

There are some positive parts to the show. I find that Milo’s Peter Petrelli is awesome as a strategist. There is a true joy that is given off by Hiro Nakamura that is just infectious.

I am just hoping that Virtuality and Caprica can pick up the slack left by BSG leaving.

Have a great frak party tonight.
