Imax films - is it worth it? With the economy and your wallet being the way they are right now is it worth it to go and spend a shitload of extra cash on a movie? Well this is where you have to do some mulling. Do you even mildly like action films with lots of explosions, tall buildings or dramatic backgrounds? For most of us I’d say the answer is yes. Movie directors are trying to find a way to impact. The Dark Knight’s Christopher Nolan made the move to present his masterpiece about good and evil play out in a super clear Imax film for several key scenes. ( the buildings in Hong Kong, The extraction, (By the way if you loved the extraction check out Batman HUSH at your comics store.) and the bitchin’ finale. The movie left me like a roller-coaster rider who had to hold on to dear life without a working lap bar. A decent portion of that was the added impact of the larger screen with the improved clarity. We are going to see the next level if Jon Faveau (Iron Man, Zathura) has his way. Several outlets are reporting that he plans on bringing IRON MAN 2 in IMAX 3-D. Yeah. Superclear DLP assisted images that will bring aerial battles to a theater near you. Can you imagine how fracken cool being in the middle of the battle and having to duck a repulsor aimed at the crimson dynamo, Fin Fang Foom, the mandarin or some other yahoo. The only way this could be Robert Downey Jr. could cooler is if he was a black dude in this movie too. The U2 3-D movie had a spectacular use of the tech. It used the spectacular concert cinematography pioneered by the great editor Hamish Hamilton from the elevation tour (DVD available). Superman style flying over the crowd, Low shots ala Godzilla, Video screen views and the interactive pit views were mind-blowing and made going to the actual concert kind of obsolete. Warner Bros. must not make another Superman movie without 3-D. Big Blue rules the environment. The movie needs to demonstrate that (and not have such a wussy script.). You should go to imax.com and see the experience for yourself. To all you Los Angeles dwellers I highly recommend the Bridge and Universal City’s Imax screen. The Anaheim Gardenwalk’s screen is decent but the auditorium seating is less vertical. Hence you need to make sure you have a good seat.
Oh yeah is it worth it? …. Yeah it’s worth it . Save your pennies or something you have to go. Discuss this article here.
