Hildalgo Have you ever watched a great actor from a great movie live off his success of that film in later, lesser films? Despite Viggo Mortensen’s strong attempt to portray cowboy Frank T. Hopkins differently from Aragorn, the film was rife with instances where he would have to make fun of the things he did in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Though these parodies were funny and they did progress the story further, they tended to break the mood that the actors were creating. An annoying moment occurred when the crook-turned-servant was introducing himself to Frank. I think that this scene was supposed to get on people’s nerves because I didn’t interpret anything this guy was telling Viggo for 1 minute. I could not believe I couldn’t understand what that guy said during that scene until his joke because I listen to people with harsh accents all the time. I have been way too critical though. The horse (Hildalgo) put the best performance of the movie. Viggo also did well. I very mildly liked the actors who portrayed the Arabian royalty as they seemed too over the top in their jerkyness. I wanted to reach into the screen and beat the hell out of them for being obnoxious jerks. The actress who played the slutty English lady was downright awesome in her portrayal of a woman who would do anything to win. She played that scorned woman archetype very believably. The Arabian female lead’s performance was satisfying. I recommend this movie to those who enjoy a movie with good production value and purposely hokey moments as well of fans of Mr. Ed. 8.1 fists out of a possible 10 fists.
